Old Friend Espresso Blend

Old Friend is our staple coffee here at Thunder. It is at the heart of each espresso drink we make and is selected specifically to bring forward a profile suitable for complex but easy-to-drink espresso. Our current Old Friend is a 50/50 blend of a washed Colombia and a washed Peru.

The first half Old Friend is the Suukala lot from Cafe Agrario, located in the Tolima region of Colombia. Cafe Agrario is an organization of farmers uniting to seek resources that can improve the quality of their harvests. This coffee is fully washed, as the climate in the area presents challenges with natural drying. 'Suukala' means "sugary to taste", and this lot certainly embodies its name. We taste a bright, clean orange with stonefruit and a honey sweetness following.

Our new second half is the Peru Querocoto that we are also serving as Rhinestone Cowboy. This lot surprised us on the table, and we felt it had a place in our espresso blend as well as on its own in our diner mugs. This lot hails from Querocoto, an up and coming production region in Peru with high elevations and excellent soil. The Peru brings structure to the cup, with berries and red fruits accompanying  a sweet caramel note.
